What is a Summer-Only/Visiting Student?

Visiting students who are not seeking a CSU degree and who register for at least one on-campus course during summer session are “summer-only” students. These summer guest students are frequently degree-seeking students from other universities who seek to transfer CSU summer credits to their home institution. They include community members, local students returning home for the summer, and students from other states or countries seeking to experience CSU.

Summer-Only students are approved to enroll at CSU only for the summer.

Graduate Level Courses

Are you interested in taking a graduate-level course as a nondegree student before applying for graduate admission? If so, be sure to review guidance from the Graduate School’s resource by academic department(s).

It's Easy to Apply

Individuals interested in Summer-Only registration are encouraged to apply by March 1 for first access to course registration.

Summer-Only students who want to register for any on-campus summer course(s) must first complete a Nondegree (Summer-Only) application. Summer-Only applications are free and easy to complete. Applications are available through the Office of Admissions at the links below:

Application Status


For questions about the status of your application, please contact Admissions staff.

  • Application processing begins February 15.
  • Summer-Only applications are usually processed within one-two days once registration is open.
  • Students should allow two-three business days after submitting their application for registration access to be available.

Transferring Credits

Please note:

  • If you are planning to transfer CSU credits, be sure your home institution will accept them.
  • Additional information is available on the Course Information resource.

Summer Tuition and Fees

Please visit the Tuition and Fees resource for students completing 1) in-person classes or 2) a combination of in-person and online classes. Eligible nonresident undergraduates receive a 30% summer base tuition reduction

Registration

Net-ID and registration access

  • Once approved for nondegree enrollment, you will be emailed instructions to activate your NetID log-in credential.
    • Your Net-ID will provides access to RAMweb for class schedules, registration, add/drop dates for each course, and more.
  • You’ll also need to set up DUO Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) using a computer and second device (typically mobile phone) to access course registration.

Prepare for registration to avoid delays

  • Be sure course prerequisites are met.
    • If your CSU course has a prerequisite, you will need an override from the department offering the course before registering.
  • If overrides are needed for any courses, allow time to arrange this so registration will be possible for those courses.
  • CSU Online students taking the face-to-face or hybrid summer session courses must request an override from the instructor.
  • Please contact the department offering the course for a syllabus and/or overrides.
  • Please visit the The Hub’s website for important dates, then review the Registration and Records resource.

  • From RAMweb, access Menu > Registration for information related to registering.
  • Registration is open on a space-available basis until classes begin and through the schedule change period.

Summer Housing

Summer-only students and students of CSU Online who are taking one or more credits are eligible to stay in on-campus summer housing. Housing and meal costs are prorated and based on the weeks you stay.

Degree-Seeking Students

Students not currently enrolled at CSU who wish to earn a CSU degree must apply for admission. Please visit Applying to Colorado State.

Information for undergraduate degree-seeking students — including how to apply — is available through the Office of Admissions. Students are strongly encouraged to utilize their Admissions and Ram Start Dashboard for personalized instructions.

Summer Start and CSU Spur Start Students

Summer start students (Fort Collins main campus) and CSU Spur Start students (CSU Spur campus in Denver) are admitted to CSU. They are electing to begin classes before their fall semester. In contrast, Summer-Only students are approved to enroll in CSU only for the summer semester.
