Taking Only Online Classes?

Please note: Students enrolling in online course(s) only who are not seeking a degree from CSU do not need to apply for CSU admission. These students may visit the CSU Online website to view classes, register, and connect with an advisor.

What is a Summer-Only Student?

Visiting students who are not seeking a CSU degree and register for at least one campus course during summer session are “summer-only” students. These students are frequently degree-seeking students from other universities who seek to transfer CSU summer credits to their home institution. They include community members, local students returning home for the summer, and students from other states or countries seeking to experience CSU.

Please visit Courses at a Glance to easily search credit-bearing courses by subject, term, and AUCC (core curriculum courses) and view in-person, hybrid, and online options. For additional details, please visit the General Catalog and Class Schedule.

We warmly welcome you to join our CSU community. The Principles of Community express our inclusive and supportive environment as well as our expectations for everyone participating in our courses and programs.

It’s Easy to Apply

Summer-Only students wanting to register for any on-campus summer course(s) must first complete a Nondegree (Summer-Only) application. Applications can be submitted year-round; application processing begins February 15. Individuals interested in Summer-Only registration are encouraged to apply by March 1 for first access to course registration. Summer-Only applications are free, can be completed quickly, and are available through the Office of Admissions at the links below:

If you are interested in taking a graduate-level course as a non-degree student before applying for graduate admission, be sure to review guidance from the Graduate School’s resource by academic department(s).

For questions about the status of your application, please contact Admissions staff.

Transferring Credits

Please note:

  1. If you are planning to transfer CSU credits, be sure your home institution will accept them.
  2. If your CSU course has a prerequisite, you will need an override from the department offering the course before registering.

Additional information is available on the Course Information resource.

Registration

  • Once admitted, students create a NetID, then register through RAMweb.
    • From RAMweb access Menu > Registration for information related to registering.
  • Registration is open on a space-available basis until classes begin and through the schedule change period.

Prepare for Registration to Avoid Delays

  • Be sure course prerequisites are met.
    • If overrides are needed for any courses, allow time to arrange this so registration will be possible for those courses.
    • Please contact the department offering the course for a syllabus and/or overrides.
    • Please visit the Registrar’s website for important dates, then review the registration resource.
